domain names and intellectual property?

I would like to know what rights I have. lets say their is a company named www.findusedparts.com and it is a part locator service and lets say I wanted to start a part locator service and I registered the name www.findusedcarparts.com. can that company stop me from using that domain by claiming it is to similar? I was sent an email saying that I had infringed and that the 2 names were confusingly similar, please tell me what rights I do and do not have on this issue. they said it was called intellectual property and they demanded that I take my site down at once. these are not the actual names of the sites in question but they are very similar and the same rules should apply. all help on this issue would be very appreciated
