What type of lawyers sue the police for a living?
I know lawyers specialize in many fields such as.. Prosecutors Public Defenders Criminal Civil Divorce Class-action lawyers Real Estate Bankruptcy Insurance Commercial Corporate Property Appeals Cyber attorneys but which one actually specialize in sueing the police force? The reason I'm asking is because there are always police brutality and harassment but however they get away with their crimes because they're legal criminals. So what kind of lawyers specialize in these kind of court cases? What type of lawyers deal with police harassment and brutality?
Public Comments
- Civil rights....good luck!
- Generally they are personal injury lawyers with a strong interest in civil rights law.
- civil rights or public defender.
- Lawyers don't sue anybody. They represent plaintifs or defendants involved in a lawsuit. "The reason I'm asking is because there are (sic) always police brutality and harassment but however they get away with their crimes because they're legal criminals" I am sure you will find that they don't always get away with their crimes (ignoring the fact that most of the time it is not a "crime", rather a tort). See for example the off duty police beating of Frank Jude in Milwaukee. And what do you mean by "legal criminals"?
- It depends on what the police are being sued for.
- It would be civil rights specialist. When the police violate a person's civil rights they are allowed to walk and sue. Generally there is not trial or anything and it is settled beforehand to avoid bad publicity for the police force.
