How to secure intellectual property?

I have an idea that I would like to create and sell. I was wondering what the steps are to bring it to market while protecting myself. How do I go about getting a patent for it. How do I go about creating an NDA for it legally so I can hire people to help me create it. What else should I know about in bringing an intellectual property through creation and into market?
