How do you report stolen property?

Before reporting a stolen item, of which you have proof that it is yours, is there a law about giving the person responsible a 3 or 5 day notice or something similar before it becomes stolen? If they don't return the item with in the time period, they are held responsible for the item, and the theft of it? Correct? What exactly is the law? Particularly in Georgia or Hawaii

1. Sounds like you lent them the thing you are talking about. Demand it back. If they don't return it than report it to the police. Never mind the research. Do you want it back or not? Let the cops handle the details.
2. There is no requirement to give a person 3-5 days. If you demand the item back - and they do not return it- it is stolen. HOWEVER, a reasonable person would give someone a few days to comply before reporting the crime.
