Tracking stolen property?

I had a bag of bottles stolen out of the back of my truck earlier today that I was going to return at the store, and Im not that mad because Im pretty wealthy and just beleave in recycling, but theft really makes me mad. So, how can i in the future set someone up for a trap and catch the thief? One idea of my was to hide a small transponder inside one of "undercover" pop cans so I can hoam in on the loot? Anyone have better Idea? I live at apartments and truck was parked in complete good view of second floor and their balcony which is across from me, I think the guys on second floor did it. Thanks so much! I want to be able to track package after it was stolen.
