how long do u have to do if u are charge with theft by receiving stolen property?

- Well, if this was an accident and he accidently was storing something like a computer for a friend who was in transition and lied and said it was their computer and asked him to store it while they moved, maybe if it was an excuse of being stupid and trusting a friend, I hope you get him a lawyer and he will not have to do a long time. Sometimes people buy a stolen car through trust and do not know the true facts. This can happen at a Pawn shop too when they buy stuff. I really hope you get your friend a lawyer as it seems they were taken advantage of. Bye...........
- Depends on the state law, whether he's had any other arrests, whether there were any other charges or mitigating circumstances, the value of the stolen property etc.... In general - if he's in jail, he would be out in a year or less with a year or so of probation (depending on the above). Calif Deputy
