Is receiving stolen property a felony or a misdemeanor?

Is receiving stolen property a felony or a misdemeanor? I know there is some sort of rule about thr cost of the merchandise. Is the rule different in each state? and if so what are the laws in Virginia? What if its a stolen credit card?

  1. Here are some authorities on that question, found thanks to search engine. http://criminal-law.freeadvice.com/white_collar_crimes/crime_property.htm http://members.aol.com/StatutesP3/18PA3925.html It depends on whether they can make a case that * the property was in fact stolen * you knew the property was stolen, or could be reasonably certain it was stolen. * you were found to be in possession of the property, or there is a clear trail showing that you sold it or otherwise passed it on to others With credit card, if you then go and use it, depends on how much you charge on it. It is a violation of federal statutes if the stolen property crossed state lines. Think low level felony.
