What is the best way to become an intellectual property attorney?
I am currently in the middle of my first year of law school in California. I would be interested in responses primarily from attorneys that work or have worked in this specialization. I thank you greatly for any insight you can provide, i.e. a normal days work in this field and how you worked your way up. Thanks again.. off to class I go!

- As a law student, I would suspect you have an uncanny ability to research the answer to most questions. Put your law school abilities to work and find the answer yourself.
- You should study the intellectual property laws for the federal government. It will give you a good base to start with. Look up the patents and trademark laws that you are interested in. Westlaw has tons of stuff. I'm sure you are already researching in law school. Do as much as you can. When you graduate and do your internship, make sure it is for a firm that specializes in intellectual property law. I've "raised" several "baby" attorneys in the field. Study hard, learn all you can and then practice till you puke! Best of luck!
