law why study it?
i'm thinking of studying law i have an interest in the ethical aspect of it, is this enough.(i have a degree and could do one year conversion) i know i will never be a barrster eetc but what is it like if you have law degree and you don't want to go to the top but you don't want to be a legal secretary etc i guees my question is what jobs are open to law graduates and is it worth the study? i'm not into being human rights lawyer but property or intellectual property seems interesting and anyone here done a conversion to law degree. im in my 30S

- Law is very interesting and if I hadnt gone in for Nursing I would certainly think about doing law!!
- The study of any academic field is usually fueled by a passion for the subject matter. Having said that, i sense a lack of said passion and would therefore advise you to study something else. People who succeed at what they do generally are doing something they love, and do it because of that love, not because it generates a paycheck. As you well know, lawyers and barristers are considered by most to be amongst the lowest forms of life, and are less trusted than used car salespeople. This is because the practice of law has become largely about making money, and not necessarily making justice. You will become dis-illusioned if you plan on making a difference by practicing an ethical legal career. My observations are based on personal experience. I once considered a legal career, and decided to spend a week at the courthouse to see for myself what it was. I was shocked at the posturing, behind the scenes deals, and the lack of justice administered in the charade called legal practice.
- I'm about to graduate this year with a law degree and to be honest I wouldn't reccomend it! It's quite tough and the job oppertunities otehr than barrister/solicitor are not good!!
