Why did the intellectual property rights start? who invented them? I'd really appreciate if some one can explain the answers to following questions as soon as possible. 1. How do I register the intellectual property of an investment project? I have finished an investment project for a Logistics Activities Area. It's more or less like a group of warehouses providing services as 3rd party logistics providers for companies in international commerce. It is oriented to trucking, because it's the main (almost only) transport mode in Mercosur. I need to register the intellectual property before starting to offer it for sale. I live in Uruguay but I intend to sell the project worldwide. How do i register it? Is it valid to register it as a book? May I register at least the layout of the complex and the architecture? I am the only author of the project, which is my thesis work in Industrial Engineering. 1. Where do you want to register? At the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay), the USA and in Europe (at least Italy and Spain which are the most active here) 2. What do you want to register? The market research, the business plan, the architecture (incuding the layout and the designs of the warehouses) and the refrigerated warehouse design. 3. How do you plan to use the IP? I want to sell it to any company that works as 3PL provider, transfering my rights to them.

Why is real property for ever and intellectual property not? When one creates a real property, ie. builds a house on his own land, he retains the rights to it in perpetuity. When an artist creates an intellectual property, it will go out of copyright (unless renewed and there's a limit to that, I think) in a number of years. Why is real property treated differently from intellectual property? Is there a solid reason in the law? Shouldn't the artist retain his rights in perpetuity as well? Unless, of course, he elects to transfer them?

Do you have to be an engineer or have a special background to get into any field of intellectual property law? Is an engineering or science degree necessary to practice intellectual property law? I'm a first year law student with a background in web development. I've always been fascinated by online copyright issues and media distribution, so intellectual property seems like a good area to focus on for my second and third years. Does this mean I don't have much of a chance as a copyright attorney?

Should intellectual property rights be stripped to stop global warming? Not only are international hands being extended to collect funds from countries like the United States in order to help poorer nations deal with a problem that might actually be disappearing since global temperatures peaked in 1998, but climate change is also being used as a means of stripping intellectual property rights from companies that have created new more eco-friendly energy technologies. Feast your eyes on the following report from Bali by the Associated Press Wednesday under the headline "Poor Nations Demand Climate Technology" Developing nations at the U.N. Climate Change Conference demanded rapid transfers of technology Wednesday to help them combat global warming, while a report warned that some of Asia's biggest cities could be threatened by rising sea levels. [...] Delegates and activists led by the Group of 77, which represents 132 mainly developing countries and China, said barriers such as intellectual property rights and a lack of a sense of urgency among rich countries are slowing the transfer of needed technology. But Zou Ji, a member of China's delegation who specializes in clean-energy-technology issues, said in an interview he would introduce a proposal during the meeting that would set up a body under the United Nations to promote the transfer of renewable-energy technology to poorer nations. He will also propose that the U.N. body manage a fund that would help finance the spread of new, clean-power technologies. The fund also would support research on clean-energy technology and could acquire intellectual-property rights related to clean power. "We are dealing with something related to public good," Mr. Zou said. "It's a trade-off between intellectual-property rights and climate protection." Picture becoming clearer? In order to save the planet from the bogeyman these folks helped create and instill fear of, American companies that conceivably have been working for years to develop new energy technologies must forfeit their rights to such valuable property. does the phrase some like to use, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." not apply in this case for some reason?

What kind of rights exist for intellectual property for foreign writers in the United States? Where can I get information on copyright and publication rights laws in the States?
What do you think about illegal use of American intellectual property in Russia and other countries? Illegal use of foreign intellectual property was a common business during the Soviet time; not much has changed since then despite economical reforms in Russia. Plagiarists are now as before re-writing and publishing under their names professional manuals and handbooks. Piracy of software is seen as normal business. What are other ways that I can prove something is my intellectual property other than copyrighting it? My friend told me about a guy who took the original print of his novel, put it in a package and sent it to himself, but never opened it. When someone else stole his idea for the novel, he presented the package in court and since it was unopened it proved that he was the author of the novel. So are there other ways you can copyright something without spending a single dollar?

What is Intellectual Property? I. How can universals, or abstract ideas, be "owned" ? Ia. Does ownership of an abstract idea mean that the owner has the right to exclude, use, possess, and transfer the idea, under the traditional definition of property? II. If Intellectual Property does not mean the right to exclude, possess, use, and transfer a universal, what does linguistic item "Intellectual Property" signify? III. Intellectual Property and Employment Agreements? I just began work for a fortune 10 Corporation two weeks ago. As part of the "curriculum" in a 5 week training class, today I was asked to sign an "Intellectual Property Agreement" in which all i.p. I create either "1 While employed 2 While on company time 3 Utilizing proprietary information, or technology" becomes the property of the company and I'm required to notify them of anything i.p. I create. I am an aspiring writer with a novel nearly completed and a few short stories in the works. I don't feel comfortable signing this agreement. My trainer says that it will only deal with anything I create that involves the company, its main products, computer code or technology. What should I do? What are my rights? Is there a way around this?
Intellectual Property internship? I am going to begin to intern at the Office of Intellectual Property of a large research university. I am currently a Ph.D. student in science field. I am not sure what to expect from the internship. It wasn't my first choice to do - I actually tried to get a consulting internship, but got turned down my McKinsey and some other on the last rounds of interviewing. So I have been considering being a patent attorney instead. So, I am not very psyched about it, but the people I interviewed with there were REALLY excited about me. In addition people around me (colleagues, my boss, etc) all say that will be a good opportunity for me - but I feel like they are just implying - it is a great and "perfect" opportunity for someone who couldn't get anything else! So a few questions - what to expect? What will be exciting about it? What careers besides being a patent attorney could lead naturally from this internship? Also, I am concerned I will just be indifferent about the internship... Master J - McKinsey hiring practices - aigh! There were 3 of us in my grad program that applied for the internship and the guy that is known as more the clown, not very hardworking (zero publications), nor very well versed in our subject matter....he got the internship and the two of us didn't. It killed me!!

Should blogs be regarded as intellectual property? Should they be so legally protected? It would be an understatement to say that blogs are “popular” or “common.” A phenomenon is the correct word. I have one. Who else here? Raise your hands. And now there is talk of blogs actually being worth money. If it’s a special blog, or one that has a lot of hits, one which is popular with many people – its something that is worth $$$ and many would be considering to buy. But because blog contents are almost like public property – so commonly read and easily accessible by people – those who see a successful blog will be tempted to want to copy it. And I see this almost as infringement of intellectual property. Should blogs be regarded as intellectual property? Are there laws around the world which regulate this issue? So far, as I understand, Australia doesn’t have laws which deal with blogs specifically, only general internet content. What the deuce?! Why should I have to pay for using my own image? i ♥ ♀ & $ - its part of my 360 page which you'll find the link to in my profile. Its worth $0.00 last time I checked. Gnu - I would blame the Australian law schools who refer to this area of law as IP more than Copyright issues. They corrupted me!
Does intellectual property have to be registered in order for it to be enforceable?.? Is their a way to check if a certain product or information is registered with intellectual property rights?. well I bought a package online from some guy on a forum it included links to other public websites and information on how to obtain more information from public records. He made this information into a package and sold it on his site. I bought it and i sold it on ebay. Nowhere in the package or on the site is it implied that he has intellectual proprty rights. Is their a way to find out if he copyrighted it? if he didnt can he still sue me?

How does Intellectual property rights assist economic development? INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS PROTECTS THE RIGHT OF CREATORS IN THEIR CERATIONS,WHAT ROLE DOES THIS PLAY IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONS?
Why do performing artists get multiple payments for intellectual property rights? If you buy music by the Beatles for example, and you first bought it years ago on 45, then bought it as part of an album on LP, then bought it on 8- track, and to keep up with the times, you bought it on cassette and later on CD. You have paid for the artist's intellectual property rights five times and the money ends up with the artist who was already paid for his/her intellectual property rights way back when you bought the 45. Why isn't there a system in place which would allow you to turn in the LP and receive intellectual property credit when you purchase the 8-track, and the same for the 8-track when you bought the cassette, etc. Seems like this would be more fair to the consumer.
domain names and intellectual property? I would like to know what rights I have. lets say their is a company named www.findusedparts.com and it is a part locator service and lets say I wanted to start a part locator service and I registered the name www.findusedcarparts.com. can that company stop me from using that domain by claiming it is to similar? I was sent an email saying that I had infringed and that the 2 names were confusingly similar, please tell me what rights I do and do not have on this issue. they said it was called intellectual property and they demanded that I take my site down at once. these are not the actual names of the sites in question but they are very similar and the same rules should apply. all help on this issue would be very appreciated
